The three officers were in danger of being killed by David Naumenko, 62, who shot at them from inside a truck full of firearms at the Meadows Apartments in Mont Clare around 3 a.m. Wednesday, March 16, Montgomery County District Attorney Kevin R. Steele said.

Upper Providence and Limerick police initially responded to a 911 call of a man suffering from a mental health emergency, they said. Police found the man in the Meadows Apartment complex parking lot, where he had crashed his truck.

He got out of his vehicle and fired at police officers, who returned fire. Naumenko was struck in the arm and transported to Paoli Hospital for treatment.

One of Naumenko's shots grazed the back of an officer's uniform and struck his radio cord, knocking out his police radio, authorities said.

Another officer fired one shot at Naumenko, striking him in the upper right arm and causing him to fall to the ground, according to police.

"The investigation found that Naumenko fired 17 shots during the incident, and police officers #1, #2 and #3, in total, fired eight shots," DA Steele said.

He was arrested Thursday, March 17, and charged with two counts of attempted murder, among other offenses.

Naumenko was being held on $2 million cash bail at the Montgomery County Correctional Facility.
